Hey! My name is Dustin Glass, and I'm the person behind Vivid Guitar. I live in the Burlington, Vermont area, and have been playing guitar for around 30 years.
I'm mainly a home musician these days, and write and record instrumental music that's a combination of jazz, funk, rock, & blues. I like geeking out on pretty much everything guitar related - from learning new stuff, to checking out other guitar players, consuming content like videos & podcasts, and of course going down endless rabbit holes in the world of guitar gear. 😏
I like a wide range of music & guitar players, but some of my favorites include Trey Anastasio, Julian Lage, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Mark Speer, Derek Trucks, Eric Krasno, Jimmy Page, Frank Zappa, & Jerry Garcia.
Vivid Guitar is a weekly email newsletter for guitar players.
The overall idea is to take the best aspects of magazines like Guitar Player and Guitar World (both of which I'm a big fan of), and strip them down into smaller installments; and combine that with elements of more news-focused newsletters like Morning Brew.
I created Vivid Guitar for a few reasons:
- Learning guitar can be overwhelming. There’s a seemingly never-ending amount of stuff to learn. Many guitar lessons/courses/books bombard you with lots of things at once, but studies show we learn best in small chunks. I wanted something that focused on one short, easily-digestible concept at a time.
- Finding out about things like new guitar gear releases and guitar-related news shouldn’t take a ton of time. Rather than having to follow every guitar company, YouTuber, and Podcaster to stay on top of guitar info, I wanted that info in one place.
- Discovering new and up & coming guitar players is a great way to get inspiration for your own guitar playing.
Each newsletter issue is a bit different, but typically features some of the following:
- Bite-sized guitar lessons. Easily-digestible lessons focused on concepts you will remember and be able to apply to your playing, regardless of what genre you're into.
- Jam tracks. Learning chord voicings and progressions, and soling over them is one of the best things you can do to improve your playing.
- A gear showcase. Discover the most interesting gear, and lesser-known guitar brands.
- Guitarist Spotlight. Learn about up & coming guitarists, guitar educators, or other items (such as books, courses, etc.).
- Guitarist Q&A. Get practice ideas, playing tips, advice, and more from top guitar players.
- The most interesting guitar news. I curate the news I think you'll find interesting. Find out about new gear releases, as well as things like YouTube videos and podcasts episodes worth checking out.
I'll occasionally do deep-dive articles on things like specific types of gear, but the focus is on the newsletter.
📩 Shoot me an email at Dustin[at]vividguitar[dot]co to let me know what type of content you'd like to see in the newsletter, or just to say hi.
If you haven't yet, I'd love you to sign up for the newsletter, and I'd be super grateful if you share Vivid Guitar with other guitarists you know!
Thanks!
-Dustin Glass
